Switzerland: Where and what to eat
Thanks to its central location and cultural mix, Switzerland offers diverse dining pleasures. As you cross the country, expect to find fondues on the menu in French-speaking areas; sausage, roasts, and fried potatoes (rösti) in German parts; air-dried beef in the Graubünden region; and Italian specialties in the Ticino. Potent, tasty brandies like cherry Kirsch warm the insides. And don't neglect to end a meal with a mouth-watering Swiss pastry.
Here is a place where you get delicious fondue and raclette from France, sausages, roasts and roesti from Germany, and polenta and risotto from Italy! Swiss pastries and desserts, of course, are well known and must-indulges.
Wherever you are, just ask for the local wine. Don't miss the 'papet vaudois' (a kind of sauerkraut with sausage), in the Lake Geneva region, or the 'capuns' (stuffed cabbage rolls) in Graudbuenden. There are plenty of places to stay - hotels, most of which are members of the Swiss Hotel Association, and small family-run hotels. There is sure to be one to suit every budget.
